This weeks version of “Friday Night Football” featured a pair of teams deadlocked for second place in the Western Division standings as the Roughriders hosted the B.C. Lions. K Lui Passaglia paced the Lions to the early lead when his 49-yard FG attempt split the uprights. The lead was short lived however, as Saskatchewan QB Reggie Slack teamed up with SB Dan Farthing for a 56-yard TD reception. K Paul McCallum was good on the convert. Saskatchewan added to their lead with 5:52 remaining in the quarter when McCallum connected on a 46-yard FG making the score 10-3. Lion QB Damon Allen put the Lions ahead at the end of the quarter running the ball in himself from 1 and 24 yards respectively, the second score came with no time remaining on the clock. Passaglia was good on both convert attempts to make the score 17-10 for B.C. In the second quarter Passaglia was wide on a FG attempt from 39 yards but still scored the single. Later, at 11:37 of the quarter, B.C. scored its third rushing TD of the night when SB Al Shipman took the ball in from 2-yards. Passaglia nailed the convert. Again, with no time remaining on the clock, Passaglia hit a 22-yard FG to give the Lions a 28-10 lead entering the dressing room at half-time. Winnipeg scored first in the third period of play with a 40-yard FG 2:31 into play. B.C. halted any momentum the ’Riders might have gained however, when Allen threw his first TD pass of the night to SB Mike Trevathan at 13:11 of the third quarter. Passaglia was good for the convert following the 9-yard play. Saskatchewan QB Kevin Mason, who had replaced Slack in the second half of the game, attempted to rally the ’Riders with his first TD, a 14-yard toss to SB Rod Harris 3:50 into the 4th quarter. McCallum was good on the convert. Passaglia’s 52-yard punt was the next scoring play as it went into the end zone to score a single. A 7-yard run by Mason at 13:45 was to little to late for the Green ’Riders. The 2-point conversion was incomplete and B.C. went on to win by a final score of 39-26 after Passaglia hit a 47-yard FG with no time remaining on the clock.
