Game Notes

Game Summary

Hamilton traveled to Montreal this week hoping that their new interim Head Coach, and former Offensive Line Coach, Urban Bowman could turn things around for the struggling Tabbies. Bowman was disappointed, however, as the Alouettes jumped out to an early 7-0 lead when QB Tracy Ham scrambled into the end zone from 2 yards out just 5:42 into play. K Terry Baker was good on the convert but later was wide on a 37-yard FG attempt. The play still scored a single point, however, increasing the Montreal lead to eight. An interception by LB Edward Thomas gave Montreal excellent field position. Montreal took advantage of it as Ham rifled a 25-yard pass to SB Chris Armstrong for the major. Baker connected for the single point. Another Calvillo interception led to a 38-yard FG by Baker that sailed wide at 1:27 in the second quarter scoring the single running the score 16-0 for the Als. Baker’s next FG attempt, a 45-yarder at 3:34 of the second quarter was successful increasing the Montreal lead to 19. Newly acquired QB Rickey Foggie came into replace the struggling Calvillo and led the Tiger-Cats downfield. K Paul Osbaldiston capped the drive with a single off a 22-yard missed FG. Baker then hit for one more FG before that half was out, a 35-yard effort at 14:09 giving Montreal a 22-1 halftime advantage. Montreal continued to pour it on in the third quarter under the guidance of back-up QB Marvin Graves. Mike Pringle found the end zone on a 12-yard TD run. Baker’s convert was good at 6:59 of the quarter. Hamilton cut into the Montreal lead later in the third as Osbaldiston connected on a 47-yard FG at 10:34. Moments later, a bad snap on a punt attempt went into the end zone and a safety was conceded by Montreal. At 6:49 of the fourth quarter Hamilton scored their first major of the match when Calvillo, who had re-entered the game at the half, threw a 1‐yard strike to FB Lee Knight. Hamilton then attempted a 2-point conversion that was incomplete. Montreal stormed back during the next series scoring on a 19-yard pass from Graves to WR Jock Climie at 10:14. Baker’s convert was good increasing the Montreal lead to 24. A late rally by the Tiger-Cats was to-little-to-late, as Calvillo handed the ball to RB Archie Amerson and threw the ball to SB Mike Morreale for 1, and 35-yard TD scores respectively. Both times 2 point conversion were tried, but only the first was successful as Calvillo teamed up with Knight from 5 yards out to make the final score 36-26 for the hometown heroes.
