Game Notes

Game Summary

The B.C. Lions traveled to Taylor Field this week in an important West Division match-up. The Lions opened the scoring with a single after K Lui Passaglia’s 45-yard FG attempt sailed wide with 12:43 remaining in the first quarter. Saskatchewan took the lead however, later in the quarter when QB Reggie Slack found SB Dan Farthing in the end zone for a 35-yard score. K Paul McCallum’s convert attempt was good. McCallum was also busy in the second quarter nailing a FG from 32 yards at 2:12 into play to give the Green ’Riders a 10-1 edge. Later that same quarter, he missed a 38-yard FG, but still scored the single at 9:45. Saskatchewan continued to apply pressure on both sides of the ball and were rewarded with 3:43 remaining in the half when SB Rod Harris ran back a Passaglia punt 60 yards for the major. The convert by McCallum increased the Rider lead to 17. Slack threw his second TD pass of the night, a 24-yard toss WR Donald Narcisse at 14:26. McCallum’s convert was good. The Lions went into the dressing room on a high note after Passaglia was successful in his 24-yard FG attempt cutting the lead to 25-4 for Saskatchewan at half-time. B.C. rallied in the third quarter when Passaglia scored his second single of the night as his punt sailed through the end zone. Later, QB Damon Allen teamed up with WR Alfred Jackson for the Lions first TD score 14:34. Passaglia was good on the extra point making the score 25-12 Saskatchewan entering the final period of play. That was as close as B.C. would get, however, as the ’Riders scored three unanswered TDs. The first was from Reggie Slack who scrambled in from 24 yards out at 4:35. Then newly acquired RB Mike Saunders made his presence felt with back-to-back rushing majors at times of 7:54 and 13:36 respectively. The second TD from 1-yard out made the final score 46-12 to the delight of the ’Rider faithful after McCallum was successful in hitting all the fourth quarter single point conversions.
