The Stampeders entered this game fresh off a victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while the hometown Tiger-Cats were gunning for their first home victory of the season. The only scoring of the first quarter was a result of two Paul Osbaldiston missed FGs of 27 and 31 yards respectively. Osbaldiston increased the Hamilton lead to 5-0 when he split the uprights from 25 yards out. The Stampeders scored the games first major at 11:02 of the second quarter when RB Kelvin Anderson took it into the end zone from 3 yards out. The ensuing Mark McLoughlin convert put the Stamp’s up by a 7-5 margin. Osbaldiston closed the gap to a single point after his 33-yard FG sailed wide of the mark, but McLoughlin put Calgary up by 4 with a 35-yard FG on the final play of the first half sending the Stamps into the locker room with a 10-6 lead. The two teams traded singles to open up the third quarter scoring then at 11:11; Calgary SB Allen Pitts teamed up with Garcia for an 18-yard TD. McLoughlin’s convert was good and Calgary was out in front by an 18-7 score. The Tiger-Cats posted their first major of the game at 12:22 of the third period when RB Archie Amerson galloped 64 yards for the major score. The ensuing two-point convert attempt failed and the score after three period’s of play had the Stampeders in front by a 18-13 margin. Osbaldiston added another single closing the gap to 4 points then QB Anthony Calvillo put the Tabbies in front when he plunged into the end zone from 1-yard out. The Osbaldiston convert made the score 21-18 in favour of the black and gold. However the Stamps fought back and with 28 seconds remaining, Garcia carried it into the end zone from 1-yard out. McLoughlin added the convert and the Stampeders emerged from Ivor Wynne with a 25-21 victory. The win improved the Stampeders’ record to 7-6 and put them in a tie with the BC Lions for second spot in the tough Western Division, one game behind the division leading Edmonton Eskimos.
