Game Notes

Game Summary

It was another entertaining weekend of football last Friday evening in Vancouver as the hometown Lions entertained the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Much to the delight of the 22,399 in attendance, the Lions struck first when WR Alfred Jackson teamed up with QB Damon Allen for a 49-yard TD two minutes into the game. K Lui Passaglia added the convert rounding out the first quarter scoring. Passaglia would increase the Leos’ lead 0:43 into the second stanza when he connected on a 27-yard FG. He followed this up just over five minutes later with a 17-yard chip shot increasing their lead to 13-0. Saskatchewan K Paul McCallum got the ’Riders on the board with just 0:25 seconds left on the clock when he booted a 52-yard FG. The score after one half of play had the Lions on top by a 13-3 margin. The Roughriders trimmed that lead to 4 when SB Dan Farthing corralled a QB Reggie Slack pass for a 26-yard TD. The ensuing McCallum convert cut the Lion’s lead to just 3. Passaglia restored the six-point margin on the final play of the third quarter when his 15-yard FG attempt sailed through the uprights. Passaglia then opened up the fourth quarter scoring with a 46-yard FG putting the Lions in front by a 19-10 score. However, the ’Riders followed this up with 16 straight points beginning with a McCallum single off a missed FG at 10:33. Slack then found WR Curtis Mayfield in the open for a 53-yard major score. Slack then completed a 5-yard pass to RB Shawn Daniels for the 2-point convert. Daniels followed this up with a 1-yard TD run at 13:53 making the score 25-19. McCallum’s convert attempt was good and the ’Riders left B.C. Place Stadium with a 26-19 victory. The win improved the Roughriders’ record to 7-9, while the Lions fell to 8-8.
