Game Notes

Game Summary

It was a windy, rainy day as the Edmonton Eskimos took the field against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Winnipeg Stadium. The effects of the weather could be felt early in the game as Edmonton K Sean Fleming’s 18-yard FG at 14:53 of the opening period was the only scoring of the frame. Fleming also scored the first points of the second quarter when his 45-yard FG attempt sailed wide at 2:58 scoring a single. K Troy Westwood cut the Edmonton lead back to 3-points at 7:28 when his 42-yard FG attempt was pushed wide by the gusting wind but went through the end zone for a single. Fleming restored the Esk’s 4-point cushion when just over a minute later his wind aided 79-yard punt went through the end zone scoring yet another single. Fleming also nailed a 41-yard FG with under a minute to play in the half giving the Eskimos an 8-1 lead as they went to the dressing room to dry off. Quarterbacking changes by Winnipeg had no effect as the Bombers continued to have trouble moving the ball in the second half. Fleming’s 10-yard FG at 5:21 upped the Edmonton lead to 10-points. That lead was short lived however, as Cameron’s 64-yard punt to Henry “Gizmo” Williams ran through the end zone scoring the single point to bring Edmonton’s lead back down to 9. In the final stanza of play Fleming scored his second punting single of the night as his 58-yard kick went through the end zone. Then at 5:59 RB Mike Sellers powered in from 1-yard to score the games first TD. Fleming’s convert was good making the score 19-2 in favour of the Green and Gold. Fleming later scored his 4th single of the game when his 36-yard FG attempt sailed wide at 10:19. This would wrap up the games scoring as the Eskimos left Winnipeg with a 22-2 victory, their tenth of the season.
