Game Notes

Game Summary

The Calgary Stampeders entered this game with second place in the Western Division on the line. Meanwhile, the BC Lions were still in the hunt for third place in the West. The Stampeders however came out of the gate strong and never looked back posting a 43-9 victory in front of 24,860 Calgary faithful. The Stamps opened up the games scoring at 3:22 of the opening frame when RB Kelvin Anderson carried it in from 5 yards out. K Mark McLoughlin booted his first of four converts on the day. McLoughlin increased the Calgary lead to 10-0 with a 27-yard FG, his first of five 3-pointers on the day. Stampeder QB Jeff Garcia added to their lead at 8:08 of the opening frame when he carried it in himself from 1-yard out. The McLoughlin convert rounded out the first quarter scoring with Calgary on top by a 17-0 margin. McLoughlin continued to impress opening up the second quarter with FGs of 49 and 45 yards respectively. The red and white offensive machine added to their lead at 10:23 of the second stanza when WR Travis Moore was on the receiving end of a 21-yard TD pass from Garcia. McLoughlin closed out the first half scoring with a convert and a 44-yard FG sending the Stamps into the locker room with a 33-0 halftime lead. Passaglia got the Lions on the board at 3:34 of the third quarter with a 50-yard FG. However, McLoughlin countered right back with his fifth 3-pointer of the game, this one from 21 yards out. The Stamps continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter of play as Garcia hooked up with SB Allen Pitts for a 12-yard major. The McLoughlin convert upped Calgary’s lead to 43-3. BC put a major up with just 28 ticks left on the clock as Jimmy “The Jet” Cunningham scored his first TD as a Lion. However it was too little, too late as the Stampeders clinched second place with a 43-9 victory. The Stamps now move on to the Western Division Semi-Final where they will play host to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Meanwhile, the Lions will travel East to take on the Montreal Alouettes in the Eastern Division Semi-Final next Sunday.
