Game Notes

Game Summary

In the second game of a Canada Day double-header match-up, the retooled Hamilton Tiger-Cats traveled west to McMahon Stadium for a date with the Calgary Stampeders. Hamilton struck early as RB Archie Amerson caught a 3-yard pass from QB Danny McManus at 9:39 of the first quarter. K Paul Osbaldiston’s convert split the uprights and was followed by a 22-yard FG at 2:04 of the second quarter. In the third quarter WR Travis Moore got the Stamps on the scoreboard when he hooked up with QB Jeff Garcia for a 3-yard TD toss at 2:41. K Mark McLoughlin’s convert was good. The Tabbies padded their lead, however, when Amerson caught his second pass of the match from 74 yards out at 3:21. Osbaldiston’s convert made the score 16-7 for the visitors. McLoughlin missed a 35-yard FG at 5:03 but still scored the single which was followed by a 45-yard FG by Osbaldiston at 12:00 to close the scoring in the quarter with Hamilton holding a 12-point lead. The Stamps rallied in the final quarter holding the Ti-Cats scoreless and scoring 13 points of their own led by a pair of FGs by McLoughlin from 47 and 48 yards respectively. Then with 54 seconds remaining in the game, Garcia found Moore in the end zone for his second TD of the match giving the Stamps a 1-point lead and a thrilling come from behind victory to the delight of the 29,145 Calgary faithful.
