Game Notes

Game Summary

It was a battle of 0-2 teams this week as the Toronto Argonauts traveled to beautiful British Columbia. Both teams were looking to get off to a good start with an early score but it was a tight defensive battle with the only points in the first quarter coming off the foot of K Noel Prefontaine who scored 2 singles after missing FGs from 42 and 37 yards respectively. Prefontaine accounted for all the scoring in the second quarter as well, after his 38-yard FG at 8:41 sailed through the uprights. This was followed by his third missed FG attempt, which careened wide at 13:00 scoring a single. Prefontaine made up for his miss when his 20-yard FG split the uprights with 28 seconds remaining in the half giving Toronto a 9-0 lead over the home town team. BC scored first in the second half when QB Damon Allen found RB Robert Drummond for a 33-yard TD reception for the game’s first major score at 3:18 of the third quarter. K Lui Passaglia’s convert split the uprights cutting the Toronto lead to 3 points. This was followed by a spectacular 72-yard TD punt return by Toronto RB Kato Hitson at 6:16. This marked the second time in two games that Hitson has performed this feat. Prefonataine’s convert gave Toronto a 16-7 advantage. In the final stanza of play the Boatmen continued to add to their lead as QB Jay Barker threw his fist CFL TD pass to RB Mike Clemons at 2:11. Barker then followed up with his second TD pass, a bullet to wide-out Andre Batson, his first professional TD, at 5:48. Prefontaine was good on both convert attempts. BC attempted a late rally as Allen threw his second TD pass of the night to WR Jimmy Cunningham at 8:46. Passaglia was good on the convert and then proceeded to kick a 64-yard punting single at 12:20 to finish off the scoring in the game making the final from B.C. Place, Toronto 30, BC 15.
