Game Notes

Game Summary

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made the short trip east to SkyDome this week to write the latest chapter in one of the oldest rivalries in professional sport. The Tiger-Cats entered the game on a 6-game winning streak, but it was Toronto that scored first when K Arek Bigos hoofed a 40-yard FG at 9:06 of the first quarter. QB Kerwin Bell followed this with a 24-yard TD strike to SB Derrell Mitchell with 36 seconds remaining. Bigos’s convert was good making the score 10-0 Toronto heading into the second stanza. Bigos opened the scoring in the second quarter as he did in the first, hoofing a 25-yard FG at 2:31. K Paul Osbaldiston got the Hamilton on the board when his 34-yard FG sailed through the uprights at 6:41. Bigos answered right back, however, hitting FGs from 47 and 42 yard respectively. K Noel Prefontaine also chipped in for Toronto adding a 68-yard punting single. Osbaldiston finished the scoring in the first half with a 38-yard FG making the score 20-6 for the Boatmen heading into the locker room. Toronto continued to pull away from the Tabbies in the third quarter as RB Mike “Pinball ” Clemons was on the receiving end of a 20-yard toss by Bell at 4:09. The dynamic duo also hooked up later at 5:51 later, this time for an 11-yard major. Bigos was good on both converts giving Toronto a 28-point lead going into the final stanza of play. Toronto’s defence continued their impressive outing keeping Hamilton’s offensive unit off-balanced. Prefontaine’s 66-yard punting single at 6:34 opened the scoring in the final quarter and was followed by Clemons’ third TD of the night when he bounced into the end zone from 1-yard out at 11:09. Bigos’s convert completed the scoring in the match. Toronto’s 42-6 victory over their rivals in the East evens their record at 4-4 while dropping Hamilton to 6-2.
