Game Notes

Game Summary

The BC Lions hosted the Montreal Alouettes this week in an important east/west match up. Montreal grabbed the early lead at 5:57 of the first quarter when FB Michael Soles hauled in a 10-yard pass from QB Tracy Ham in the end zone for the major. K Terry Baker’s convert was good giving the Als a 7-point lead. BC responded quickly, however, as newly activated RB Juan Johnson matched Soles TD catch with a 10-yard pass of his own from Lions pivot Damon Allen at 10:45. Passaglia’s convert evened the score at 7. On the ensuing kick-off, Passaglia gave the Lions their first lead of the game hoofing the ball into the end zone scoring a single point. Baker chipped in a 39-yard FG at 13:04 to round out the first quarter scoring with Montreal holding a slim 10-8 advantage. In the second quarter, kickers continued to set the scoring pace. Passaglia opened with a 37-yard FG at 3:34. Ham responded for Montreal by leading his troops on a 42-yard drive culminating in a 27-yard FG by Baker at 9:51. Baker also added a 52-yard moon shot with less than two minutes remaining in the half, giving Montreal a 16-11 lead over the home team heading into the third stanza of play. Passaglia accounted for the only scoring in the third period when he nailed a 37-yard FG at 13:18 bringing the Lions back to within 2 points. However, in the fourth quarter Montreal pulled away when Baker was perfect on a 17-yard FG at 2:28. This was followed by a 47-yard FG attempt by Passaglia that sailed wide scoring a single point. WR Mac Cody completed the scoring on the night teaming up with Ham for Montreal’s second receiving TD of game at 7:26. Baker’s convert made the final from B.C. Place Stadium, the Montreal Alouettes 26, the BC Lions 15. The win upped Montreal’s record a CFL best 8-2 mark. The game also marked first game action since the ‘96 season for veteran pivot, and Lions quarterback coach, Danny Barrett, who replaced Allen late in the game.
