The Hamilton Tiger-Cats travelled to the west coast this week to take on the BC Lions. Hamilton went into B.C. Place Stadium looking to improve on their league leading 9-2-1 record while BC was looking for a victory to lift them above Saskatchewan for sole possession of third in the West Division. Hamilton scored first when K Paul Osbaldiston nailed a 46-yard FG at 7:13 of the opening quarter. BC quickly replied, however, when RB Juan Johnson powered into the end zone from 2-yards out at 11:47. Passaglia’s convert gave the Lions a 7-3 lead at the end of the quarter. In the second period, Johnson continued to display a knack for the end zone when he scored on another 2-yard run at 12:28. Passaglia’s convert made the score 14-3 for the BC at the half. In the third stanza, Hamilton finally got on the board when CB Derek Grier intercepted BC QB Damon Allen’s pass and returned it 46 yards for the major. Osbaldiston’s convert was good. At 7:36 Passaglia extended BC’s lead to 7 points when his 29-yard FG was perfect. Hamilton tied the game at 11:19 when QB Danny McManus found veteran slot-back Darren Flutie 30 yards downfield for Hamilton’s first aerial TD. Osbaldiston’s convert was good. However, BC quickly recaptured their 7-point cushion when Johnson scored his third rushing TD of the game at 13:38 scrambling to the end zone from 15 yards out. Hamilton, however, refused to give up. RB Archie Amerson tied the game for the second time at 2:15 of the fourth quarter, running the ball in from the 1-yard line. Osbaldiston’s convert was successful. The see-saw battle continued as BC retook the lead when Passaglia nailed a 49-yard FG at 7:29. The Lions added to that total at 11:29 when Allen found SB Rod Harris 60 yards downfield for the major. Passagalia’s convert made the score 34-24 for the Lions. Hamilton once again clawed back into the game when SB Trevor Shaw was on the receiving end of McManus’ second TD throw of the night, but it was too little, too late as the Lions went on to win the match 34-31.
