Game Notes

Game Summary

The division leading Calgary Stampeders hosted the BC Lions in an important West Division match-up. The Lions scored first when K Lui Passaglia booted a 40-yard FG at 3:40 of the opening frame. He then connected with a 13-yard FG at 6:46 giving BC a 6-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Calgary opened second quarter scoring when QB Jeff Garcia found SB Allen Pitts in the end zone for a 4-yard pass at 1:25. It was Pitts’ 97th career TD reception, tying the all-time CFL record held by Eskimo great Brian Kelly. McLoughlin’s convert gave Calgary a slim 1-point lead. The lead was short lived, however, as the Lion’s impressive rookie RB Juan Johnson powered into the end zone at 6:15 for the major. Passaglia’s convert was good. McLoughlin cut into that lead before the end of the quarter, striking a 16-yard FG at 11:11 making the score 31-10 in favour of the Lions after 30 minutes of play. The see-saw battle continued into the third quarter when Passaglia nailed a 27-yard FG. However, Calgary responded quickly when McLoughlin’s 47-yard at 6:42 hooked wide scoring a single. Passaglia further extended BC’s lead in the fourth quarter by nailing a 42-yard FG 32 seconds into play. At 9:13 he struck a 50-yard FG to make the final score from McMahon Stadium, BC 22, Calgary 11. The Lions win keeps them in a tie for third in the West Division while the Stampeders saw their record drop to 9-5-0.
