Game Notes

Game Summary

The Toronto Argonauts hosted the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this week looking for a win to keep their dreams of hosting the Eastern Semi-Final alive. Hamilton on the other hand were looking for a victory to clinch the East Division crown. The Tiger-Cats got off to the start they wanted when recently activated wideout Chris George was on the receiving end of QB Danny McManus’s 13-yard pass for the major at 4:26 of the first quarter. K Paul Osbaldiston’s convert gave Hamilton an early 7-0 lead. That’s the way the game stayed until 6:10 of the second stanza when K Arek Bigos’ 37-yard FG sailed wide scoring a single. Hamilton continued to pressure the Toronto defence and were rewarded at 13:22 when RB Ronald Williams scored his first TD of the night from 1-yard out. At 14:36, he followed this up with his second TD, this time powering in from the 28-yard line. Osbaldiston connected on both converts making the score 21-1 in favour of the black and gold at halftime. In the third quarter, Williams picked up where he left off scoring his third TD of the night punching in the ball in from the 1-yard line at 5:39. Osbaldiston’s convert extended Hamilton’s lead to 27 points. Hamilton’s defence also contributed as DB Gerald Vaughn intercepted Kerwin Bell’s pass and rumbled 60 yards downfield for the major. Osbaldiston added his fourth convert of the game. Toronto scored their first major of the night when Bell found SB Duane Dmytryshyn for a 20-yard pass at 10:11. Bigos’ convert cut Hamilton’s lead to 27. In the final stanza, Hamilton’s offence continued to play well as Osbaldiston opened a string of 10 unanswered points with a 37-yard FG at 8:36. This was followed by backup QB Cody Leadbetter’s 4-yard TD pass to SB Mike Morreale for Hamilton’s sixth TD of the match. Osbaldiston’s convert made the final score from SkyDome, Hamilton 45, Toronto 8. Hamilton’s victory locks up first place in the East Division while regulating Toronto to a third place finish.
