Game Notes

Game Summary

The Saskatchewan Roughriders were playing for pride this week after being eliminated form the playoffs in Week 16 action. BC, on the other hand, were assured of a playoff berth and were looking to gain ground on Edmonton in their efforts secure second place in the West Division. The Lions got off to a quick start when RB Robert Drummond found a seam on the Lions’ first drive of the game and galloped 64 yards downfield for the score at 1:11 of the first quarter. K Lui Passaglia’s convert was good giving the Leo’s a 7-point advantage. However, Saskatchewan quickly replied when Drummond’s counterpart Mike Saunders, took the ball in from the 8-yard line at 6:23. K Paul McCallum’s convert tied the game at 7. WR Eddie Brown re-established BC’s 7-point cushion before the end of the quarter when he grabbed QB Damon Allen’s 25-yard pass at 9:17. Passaglia’s convert was good. In the second quarter Passaglia struck a pair of FGs from 23 and 26 yards respectively giving BC a 13-point lead. However, FB Shawn Daniels cut into that lead 4:37 later when he plunged into the end zone from the 1-yard line. McCallum’s convert made the score 20-14 for BC. Passaglia added a 36-yard FG at 13:46 before QB Reggie Slack called his own number and scrambled 5 yards to the end zone at 14:36. McCallum’s convert completed the scoring in the half with the Lions leading 23-21. Passaglia opened the scoring in the third stanza by hoofing FGs of 12 and 44 yards to run up the Lions point total to 29. McCallum responded with a 43-yard FG at 12:54 before Passaglia nailed his sixth FG of the night from 46 yards out at 14:52 giving the Lions a 32-24 advantage heading into the final period of play. At 5:17 Drummond scored his second rushing TD of the game rumbling in from the 9-yard line. Passaglia’s convert was good, as was his 49-yard FG attempt at 11:14. At 12:55 Slack scored his second rushing TD of the afternoon. The two-point conversion attempt failed but Saskatchewan scored once again at 13:31 when Saunders caught a 13-yard pass from Slack. McCallum’s convert made the final from Taylor Field in Regina, BC 42, Saskatchewan 37.
