Game Notes

Game Summary

The Calgary Stampeders visited the red-hot BC Lions this week in B.C. Place Stadium. The Lions, winners of their past five games, scored first at 4:47 of the first quarter when K Lui Passaglia hoofed a 64-yard punting single. Passaglia rounded out the first quarter scoring at 10:20 with a 21-yard FG putting the Lions on top 4-0. Calgary opened he second quarter scoring when QB Jeff Garcia found SB Allen Pitts in the end zone for a 37-yard scoring play at 1:12. Unfortunately, a bad snap on the convert attempt prevented the extra point. Then at 6:28, QB Damon Allen called his own number and scrambled into the end zone from 6-yards out. RB Juan Johnson added to the lead at 8:07 when he powered in to the end zone from the 1-yard line. Passaglia was good on both converts making the score 18-6 in favour of the Lions. K Mark McLoughlin added a single to Calgary’s total when his 45-yard FG missed wide. At 13:38 Passaglia added another FG before Garcia teamed up with SB Vince Danielsen for a 14-yard TD pass at 14:19. McLoughlin’s convert trimmed the Lions lead to 21-14 as the teams entered the locker room for halftime. Johnson scored his second rushing TD of the match at 2:27 of the third period, taking the ball in from the 9-yard line. Passagalia’s convert was good. However, Calgary responded before the end of the quarter as RB Kelvin Anderson hauled in a 4-yard pass from Garcia for the major. McLoughlin’s convert cut the Lion’s lead to 7 points. At 6:50 of the final period, P Tony Martino added a 50-yard punting single. That was as close as the Stampeders would get, however, as Passaglia added a 39-yard FG to make the final score from Vancouver, the BC Lions 31, Calgary Stampeders 22.
