Game Notes

Game Summary

The Montreal Alouettes travelled to Hamilton this week to play the Tiger-Cats in a possible preview of the East Division Final. Montreal made a statement early by taking a 6-0 lead in the first quarter as K Terry Baker struck FGs of 26, and 38 yards respectively. However, Hamilton responded quickly in the second quarter as SB Mike Morreale caught a 16-yard scoring pass from QB Danny McManus at 3:04. Osbaldiston’s convert gave Hamilton a 1-point lead until Baker’s 42-yard FG attempt sailed wide through the end zone to even the game at sevens. At 13:16, Osbaldiston’s 32-yard FG gave the lead back to Hamilton until Baker’s 25-yard FG at 14:27 tied the game once again. The teams finished the first half tied at 9. The see-saw battle continued into the third period as Baker added a 33-yard FG at 5:41. Osbaldiston cut the lead to 2 points before the end of the quarter, however, when his 43-yard FG attempt at 11:34 sailed wide scoring a single point. In the final stanza of play Montreal began to pull away as Baker struck three unanswered FGs. The first came at 4:28 when Baker teed it up from the 28-yard line. Then he hoofed an 18-yard kick at 6:51. He rounded out the scoring at 13:21 when his 21-yard FG made the final from Ivor Wynne Stadium, 22-11 in favour of Montreal. Baker’s 7 FGs fell one shy of the CFL single game record.
