Game Notes

Game Summary

Edmonton was hoping to halt their three game losing streak and head into the playoffs on a positive note as they hosted the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium last week. Edmonton got off to the start they wanted when FB Tony Burse powered into the end zone from 1-yard out at 3:21 of the opening quarter. This was followed by RB C.J. Williams’ 15-yard TD pass reception from QB David Archer at 12:12. K Sean Fleming’s converts were good giving Edmonton a 14-point advantage after one period of play. In the second quarter, Edmonton picked up were they left off when Archer found WR Shannon Myers in the end zone for a 33-yard scoring play at 7:32. At 11:44, Burse scored his second rushing TD of the match, plunging in from the 1-yard line. Once again Fleming was good on both converts making the score 28-0 for the Green and Gold. K Paul McCallum got Saskatchewan on the scoreboard before the end of the half when at 13:17 he stroked a 39-yard FG. At 2:23 Fleming opened the third quarter scoring when his 42-yard FG missed wide scoring a single. Saskatchewan cut the lead to 19 points when RB Mike Saunders slashed his way into the end zone from the 14-yard line. WR Don Narcisse continued Saskatchewan’s rally when he caught QB Steve Sarkisian’s 34-yard pass at 7:54. McCallum’s convert was good on both scores. Edmonton put the brakes on the ’Rider rally before the end of the quarter, however, when WR Marcus Dowdell hauled in a 41-yard pass at 10:32 Fleming’s convert made the score 36-17 for the Esks heading into the final quarter of play. Edmonton continued to press in the fourth quarter as SB Don Blair was on the receiving end of a 21-yard TD pass at 1:42. Fleming’s convert was good, as was his 39-yard FG at 10:24. Saskatchewan wide-out Dexter Dawson caught a 23-yard pass with no time remaining on the clock to complete the scoring in the game with the Eskimos on top by a 46-24 margin.
