The Royal Canadian Dragoons withdrew from the spring session and defaulted one game to each of the other three teams. There was a 3 way tie for first place in the MRFU and tie-breakers were required. Two of the teams (St. John’s and Wesleys) had college students and faculty who were involved in final exams over the following two weeks. By the time exams were finished, the Winnipegs started losing players to other spring sports. No champion was crowned for the 1897-98 season.
