Game Notes

ORFU rules Parkdale forfeits game after refusing to play without Lionel Conacher allowed on the field. Faced with injuries, Conacher offered his services to Parkdale on Sunday, and the team received a ruling and eligibility certificate on Monday. Hamilton protested prior to the game under the ground Conacher was not eligible under college residence rules and an executive meeting agreed and Conacher was deemed ineligible. An agreement between teams was made that Conacher would only see the field if one team held a substantial lead near the end of the game.

With 11 minutes left, and the game tied at two, Parkdale faced additional injuries in the game. Conacher was sent on, but pulled off before he participated in a play. Soon after, he was sent on again, only to be pulled off when Hamilton objected. This continued several times, with Parkdale management sending Conacher on and he leaving the field when Hamilton opposed his presence on the field. Referee Reg DeGruchy attempted to mediate the situation by giving the teams 30 seconds to decide if they would play. Hamilton declared they would not play if Conacher played and Parkdale insisted Conacher be allowed on the field. As a result of the impasse, DeGruchy called the game and Hamilton shortly left the field. After waiting a few minutes, Parkdale lined up and scrimmaged the ball, taking it over for a touch unopposed and breaking the deadlock.

A general melee ensued, with fans rushing the field before an announcement was made the game would not continue and they dispersed. An executive ORFU meeting was held immediately, but only two Parkdale and two Hamilton members were present along with the league president, who had to cast the deciding vote. He decided in favour or Hamilton, who was awarded the win and the league championship.
