Balmy Beach refused to accept a challenge from Regina Roughriders for the Grey Cup to be played Dec. 3, 1927 at Varsity Stadium, citing injuries and loss of players to pro hockey.
Therefore, the East Final between the ORFU's Balmy Beach and IRFU's Hamilton Tigers became the Grey Cup championship.
At the next meeting of the CRU, rules were put in place which would guarantee western teams a place in the CRU playoffs. Details of compensation for western teams were also defined.
To prevent shenanigans from previous seasons, the WCRFU could be fined if the west failed to supply a challenger.
