Anderson died after rescuing two boys who had fallen off a dam on the Stones River. Five years earlier, he had saved two people trapped by creek flood waters in Tulsa, OK. The Jerry Anderson Hero Award in Murfreesboro, TN is named in his honour and is awarded to individuals who display the same heroic attributes.
