Game Summary

In a game that saw a CFL record come to an end, the Saskatchewan Roughriders downed the B.C. Lions in front of a crowd of 31,888 at B.C. Place Stadium. Early in the 1st quarter, B.C. got on the board when RB Cory Philpot scrambled in from 10 yards away to give the Lions an early 7-0 lead. B.C. struck again as K Paul McCallum booted a 25-yard field goal but then Saskatchewan got on track when DB Charles Anthony returned a fumble for a TD which QB Kent Austin then followed by going in from 1 yard out. Saskatchewan was up by a score of 14-10 at the half and they opened the scoring in the 3rd when WR Don Narcisse hauled in a 20-yard catch on a pass from Austin. The Lions came back again and hit for a FG early in the 4th to make the score 21-13 with just over 14 minutes to play. But the Green ’Riders began to close the door as Narcisse brought down an 18-yard reception which B.C. answered by kicking a FG off the foot of McCallum from 45 yards out. However, Saskatchewan’s K Dave Ridgway hit his only FG of the day from 30 yards away of 3 attempts, thus ending his CFL record for consecutive FGs at 28. After Ridgway’s kick, the score was 31-16 in Saskatchewan’s favour.
