Game Notes

Game Summary

It was a beautiful warm September afternoon as 25,570 Roughrider faithful turned out to witness what promised to be a good match-up between these two clubs. The hometown side struck first when K Paul McCallum recorded a 46-yard single. The two teams struggled to get on track offensively in this one until QB Tracy Ham teamed up with WR Chris Armstrong for a 17-yard TD at 13:15 of the opening quarter. K Terry Baker added the convert and the Alouettes took a 7‐1 lead into the second stanza of play. Baker would up the Montreal lead to 9-1 with two singles before McCallum closed out the first half scoring with three consecutive FGs of 47,42 and 37 yards respectively sending the ’Riders into the locker room at half-time with a slim 1-point lead. The Montreal offensive unit came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders and at 3:59, Ham carried it in himself from 9 yards out. Then at 10:07 of the third quarter, Ham hooked up with Armstrong once again, this time from 17 yards out. Baker added both converts and the Alouettes were out in front by a 23-10 count after three-quarters of play. The ’Riders clawed back and at 5:50 recorded their first major of the game as QB Kevin Mason carried it in from 1-yard out. The McCallum convert trimmed the Montreal lead to 7 with 8:53 left to play. The two teams then traded singles but were unable to generate any further offensive drives. Montreal would go on to concede two safety touches making the final from Taylor Field, Montreal 24 and Saskatchewan 22.
