Game Notes

Game Summary

The Saskatchewan Roughriders traveled to B.C. this week needing a win to clinch a playoff berth. Both teams played a solid game but the Lions took the win in the final 10 minutes. The ’Riders scored first on a 22 yard field goal by Paul McCallum. B.C. took the lead when Cory Philpot carried the ball in from the 1-yard line. Lui Passaglia kicked the convert. Philpot continued to extend his lead of CFL touchdown scoring by breaking a 64 yard run for his 22nd touchdown of the season. Passaglia’s convert was good. McCallum put 3 more points on the board for Saskatchewan early in the second quarter. His 44 yard field goal attempt split the uprights. B.C. extended their lead minutes later with a 36 yard touchdown passing play between Danny McManus and Robert Gordon. Passaglia’s convert put the Lions ahead by 15. Saskatchewan made up one TD before the end of the half. Tom Burgess connected with Dan Farthing for a 5 yard touchdown pass. A two-point convert pass from Burgess to Farthing left the ’Riders down by a TD at the half. In the third quarter, Saskatchewan dominated most of the play. McCallum scored first for the ’Riders on a 52 yard field goal. Two plays later Terryl Ulmer intercepted a McManus pass and returned it 41 yards for a Roughrider touchdown. McCallum kicked the convert. B.C. tied the game up before the end of the quarter with a 31 yard field goal by Lui Passaglia. The ’Riders had trouble putting points on the board in the fourth quarter. They managed only a single from a missed field goal by Paul McCallum. The Lions, on the other hand, capitalized on their chances with Passaglia sending 37 and 21 yard field goals through. The Roughriders loss left them needing a Winnipeg loss to Ottawa in order to qualify for post season play.
