Game Summary

For both of these teams, this game marked the end of a very long season. However, to their credit, both teams were beginning to tum the corner which proves to be promising for the 1997 season. 18,308 patrons turned out to B.C. Place Stadium in hopes that their club would throw together their fifth win of the season. Lions QB Damon Allen got the ball rolling at 4:15 of the opening stanza when he took the ball in himself from 9 yards out. Ottawa K Wayne Lammle countered with a FG making the score 7-3 in favour of the Lions after one quarter of play. Two Lui Passaglia FGs, followed by a RB Cory Philpot 1 yard TD run increased the Lions’ lead to 20-3. With only 58 ticks left in the first quarter, the Riders chipped into the Lions’ lead when SB Robert Gordon hauled in a 10 yard pass for the major score. However, Passaglia added a FG with no time left giving B.C. a convincing 23-10 half-time lead. The Riders came out and mounted several impressive drives early in the third quarter and at 6:34 Gordon teamed up with QB David Archer for his second major score of the day, this one a 10 yard strike. Following Passaglia’s fourth FG of the day, Eastern rookie hopeful WR Joseph Rogers was on the receiving end of a 13 yard TD pass cutting the Lions’ lead to just 2 points. However, this was as close as they would get as B.C. rounded out the scoring with a safety and a Ted Alford TD. The final from B.C. Place, B.C. 35, Ottawa 24.
