The Calgary Stampeders traveled to B.C. Place stadium this week in a crucial game in the Western Division standings. A win meant Calgary would be tied for second place with the Lions, a loss meant that they would be tied for last place with the Roughriders. B.C. opened the scoring at 6:10 of the first quarter when QB Damon Allen called his own number from 1-yard out. K Lui Passaglia’s convert attempt was good putting the Lions up by a 7-0 count. Calgary then responded when K Mark McLoughlin connected for a 40-yard FG, cutting the Lions’ lead to 4. McLoughlin rounded out the first quarter scoring when his 47-yard FG attempt sailed into touch for a single. B.C. increased their lead to 6 when Passaglia connected from 45 yards out. However, in the ensuing Calgary drive, QB Jeff Garcia threw his first TD pass of the game to SB Vince Danielsen. The 52-yard play, at 1:57 of the second quarter, gave the Stamps a slim 1‐point lead. However, that lead would be short lived, because at 6:58, B.C. QB Damon Allen threw his first TD pass of the night, a 9-yard toss to WR Alfred Jackson. Passaglia’s convert attempt was good and the Lions had a 17-11 lead. A spectacular 76-yard punt return by SB Alfred Shipman at 8:41, increased the Lion lead to 13. P Anthony Martino closed out the second quarter scoring with a punting single. In the third quarter, McLoughlin scored a single when his 48-yard FG attempt was wide. However, he redeemed himself on the final play of the third quarter, connecting from 42 yards out. The FG made the score 24-16 in favour of the Lions after three periods of play. The Lions increased their lead 5:09 into the final frame when Allen teamed up with WR Alfred Jackson for a 27-yard TD. The ensuing Passaglia convert put the Lions up by 15. Passaglia added to that lead at 9:34 Passaglia when his 12-yard FG was good. Calgary continued to battle and got to within 12 when Garcia teamed up with Pitts for a 31-yard major. The McLoughlin convert trimmed the lead to 11, but this would be as close as they would get as Passaglia added a 42-yard FG making the final, B.C. 37, Calgary 23.
