Game Notes

Game Summary

It was “Rider Pride” day in Saskatchewan as the hometown Roughriders hosted the B.C. Lions. 25,155 showed up to show their support of a squad which had struggled for most of the year. ’Rider K, Frank Jagas put the Green and White on the board early when his 54 yard field goal split the uprights just 1:26 into the opening frame, accounting for all of the first quarter scoring. The Lions scored safety touch trimmed the lead to one but WR Curtis Mayfield padded it further with a 22 yard receiving TD. Lion WR, Mike Trevathan’s 38 yard TD at 7:58 pulled them to within 1 after two quarters of play. With both Damon Allen and Chris Vargas out of the game with injuries, third stringer Giulio Caravatta stepped in and romped the Lions down field capping the drive with a 1 yard TD plunge. B.C. hoofer, Lui Passaglia added to their new found lead with a 25 yard field goal at 11:21, but with just 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter, WR Don Narcisse, who surpassed Rocky DiPietro and moved into second place on the CFL’s All-Time Pass Receiving chart, corralled a 30 yard pass trimming the B.C. lead to just 2 after three frames. Jagas opened up the fourth quarter scoring with a 20 yard field goal restoring the ’Riders lead. QB Jimmy Kemp sewed up the victory with a 1 yard TD run at 9:10 sending the ’Rider faithful home content with a victory.
